First Quarter Moon Phase
Last week we talked about the New moon and the beauty it brings in the form of emotional cleansing, visiting our inner darkness for both working on our icky sticky pieces, as well as planting seeds of intentions, much like seeds germinating in the dark, rich, soil.
It’s often used as a moon for ritual surrounding manifestations as it is considered the first moon in the lunar cycle, therefore the moon of new beginnings.
So it stands to reason that when you’ve harnessed the potential of the New moon energy, that you continue that energy forward during the second lunar phase known as the waxing crescent. About a week following the New moon is the waxing crescent phase, and it is meant for continued energy towards your intended manifestations. Much like the New moon, it is a time of personal growth, creativity, potential and expansion. It’s a good time for:
Gratitude practice
Moon gazing (always recommended for truly connecting with the moons energies and not just reading about them).
Movement practice, such as dance, stretching- really getting the energy in your body flowing in order to release stagnant energy and emotions, opening up space for new understandings.
Continued focus on the intentions/manifestation desires you set with the new moon.
And now this week we landed in the FIRST QUARTER MOON.
Now is when we ACT on our intentions. We’ve planted the seeds, and now we fertilize, and water those seeds. We make decisions for growth and we act on them. It’s a time of true commitment to your goals. No more talk, it’s action time.
Interestingly it’s also a time of balance. As the moon looks half light up and still half dark. This is a great period of recognizing that you are both light and dark, and to know yourself is to love all of you. The first quarter moon is a symbol of strength as you choose to grow towards what you desire. That can take courage and resilience.
This is not a restful phase of the moon. That will come in later moon phases. It’s a time of action towards your goals. It can also be a time for revising plans. During the waxing crescent, you may have realized some things about your goals that require your action steps to be a bit different than you initially expected. However, it’s not a time to waiver or back away out of fear you’re doing it wrong or going to do it wrong. It’s a time of courage to step forward with determination and trust that you’re doing the best you can with the information you have and it will lead you right to where you need to be.
Ritual for First quarter moon:
Bring: Mat and Journal
Optional for vibes: Incense, Candles, Crystals of your choosing
Find my First Quarter playlist here.
Start by sitting on your mat and focus on getting a connected breath- no break between the inhale and exhale, just one continuous flowing breath.
For the second song, allow yourself to begin swaying and connecting to your physical presence.
As the playlist progresses, it progresses in tempo. Allow it to be a guide to moving your body in different ways, and however it wants to move. Dropping any type of performance mentality. Just you, your breath and the music.
Eventually make your way to standing and find joy in moving your body freely. Embrace the mentality: “dance like no one is watching.” It’s not for any other purpose than to be free in your body, and to allow energy to move through you.
When you move and breathe you release what is not serving you, and create an open invitation for new energy to move through you, which is exactly the energy of the First quarter moon- courage, determination, ACTION.
The playlist will slow again and that is a good time to take yourself down to ground in a comfortable seated or laying position.
For a couple of the slower songs take that time to continue the connected breath and feel the expansiveness of your mind, body and spirit from the movement.
When you feel ready, grab your journal and write down some action steps you will take towards your goals/manifestation that you are focused on this month beginning with that New Moon from last week.
Check back next week for discussion on the next lunar phase and how to embrace the energy of it.
